Teen Charged With Groping Child At Trumbull Mall

An area man was arrested and is facing charges after allegedly groping a 9-year-old girl while visiting Westfield Trumbull Mall.

The alleged incident occurred Sunday, Dec. 2 around 3 p.m. A female shopper reporter to authorities that a man had allegedly grabbed her daughter’s buttocks twice in the children’s clothing section at Target. 

The mother was on the phone at the time of the incident, and she said that her daughter approached her in a “terrified state” to tell her what had happened.

The child then pointed out the man to her mother, who promptly approached him. The suspect, 18-year-old Ameer Stewart of Windfield Drive in Shelton, allegedly ignored her. The mother then confronted the security team at Target, who were able to review the surveillance footage of the incident.

Shortly after, Trumbull Police were able to use the victim’s description and photo surveillance to identify and locate Stewart in a different section of the mall. After a brief foot chase, police arrested the subject.

Stewart faces multiple charges, including:

  • Sexual assault in the fourth degree
  • Breach of peace
  • Risk of injury to a minor

Stewart was held on $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, Dec. 10.
